The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust commissioned Clear Story to produce the opening event for the 2018 International Festival of Firsts, a spectacle combining a live orchestral performance by composer Wang Lu with a synchronized projection mapping installation by digital artist Filip Roca. Clear Story was tasked with designing the projection system, orchestra staging, supplemental illumination, and an audience experience that allowed several thousand people clear views of both the orchestra and projected artwork. The Clear Story team of projection and content specialists worked closely with artist Filip Roca, creating the 3D mapping templates for the building exterior that were used as the basis for the artwork’s structure. Clear Story supervised the deployment, calibration and alignment of the projection system and orchestra synchronization strategy. Clear Story directed the live outdoor production, seen by more than 20,000 people over three nights in September 2018.
