Highmark Fifth Avenue Place

Pittsburgh, PA

2017-Present

Clear Story was engaged by Highmark Health to design and implement an exterior lighting renovation to their corporate headquarters building, Fifth Avenue Place, a landmark on the Pittsburgh skyline known for its distinctive spire. With the parallel objectives of increased operational efficiency and programmable color-changing capability, the completed LED spire lighting system uses 75% less energy than the one it replaced and gives Highmark infinite programming options for static and animated color effects.

Highmark’s new dynamic, color-changing system is the force behind the organization’s Community Lighting Initiative, a program designed to bring attention to issues and causes in the health and human services space. The spire at Fifth Avenue Place glows in saturated magenta in October to signify Breast Cancer Awareness, displays brilliant red during February for Heart Health Month, and marks significant events and holidays throughout the year like Pride Week, MLK Day, Autism Awareness Day, and many more. An iconic skyline element with a renewed responsive vitality, the spire at Fifth Avenue Place is visible across the city and surrounding neighborhoods. The vibrant color-changing illumination underscores Highmark’s commitment to health, wellness, and knowledge-sharing in the Pittsburgh community it serves.
